視床下部は自律神経系と内分泌系との相関の場であって，この部の神経細胞や神経線維には多数の神経活性物質が含まれ，生体機能の神経性ならびに体液性調節にきわめて重要な役割を果たしている。本章では，これらの活性物質のうち神経ペプチドを取り上げてその分布を述べるが，神経ペプチドを①視床下部下垂体前葉系の調節に関与する向下垂体ホルモン，②視床下部下垂体後葉系のペプチド，③オピオイドペプチドとその関連物質，および④脳腸管ペプチドの4群にわけて概説する。
The hypothalamus contains various kind of neuropeptides and topographical localization of those peptidergic neurons are clarified by immuno-histochemistry. In this article, hypothalamic distri-butions of following peptide-containing neurons are described.
1. Hypophysiotropic hormones (TRH, LHRH, GHRH, Somatostatin, CRH)
