Reorganization of the cerebello-thalamo-cerebral projection

I．はじめに

　中枢神経系の再生は哺乳類では一般に起こらないとされている。それにもかかわらず脳損傷後の機能障害は時間の経過とともに一般的には回復に向かう。その程度は個体の年齢や損傷部位によって非常に差がある。一般に損傷時の年齢が若いと代償機能は顕著に認められ，また脊髄損傷の場合に較べると小脳や前庭系の損傷の場合には，はるかに著しい機能回復が見られるという。代償過程が学習や訓練によっても大きく左右されることは機能回復を促進させるうえにリハビリテーションが重要な役割を果たすことで経験的によく知られている。

　イタリアの生理学者Lucianiは1世紀近くも前に動物に小脳損傷を加え長期間にわたる非常に詳細な観察を行ない，障害された機能は学習とか訓練（機能的代償）によって，あるいは損傷前には関与していなかった脳組織が小脳損傷後新しい機能を獲得すること（器質的代償）により代償されるとの考えを述べている^4）。機能的代償と器質的代償が中枢機構として区別されうるかどうかは別としても代償機能が脳の可塑性によるものであることは疑いのないところである。

Abstract

It is well known that functional deficiencies caused by damage to the cerebellum show re-markable recovery particularly in children and young animals. Little has been known about the neural basis of such a remarkable compensatory function. Recent electrophysiological and morpho-logical studies provided evidence for the occurrence of a marked reorganization of the neuronal circuitry of the cerebellum and related structures. This article deals with plastic reorganization of the cerebello-thalamo-cerebral projection in the feline domestica following hemicerebellectomy or cerebral cortical ablation.
