  • Look Inside

This review was summarized the currently avail-able data on the thalamocortical and corticotha-lamic connections mainly in the monkey. Fiber connections of the motor thalamic nuclei were also discussed in attempting to correlate our results with those of others. Our results were based on the autoradiographic and horseradish peroxidase studies in the monkey. In any event, our data indicate the VLo (nucleus ventralis lateralis, pars oralis) projection to the rostral regions of motor area. The question still remains unreso-lved whether the divergent projections exist in the cerebello-thalamo-cortical and pallido-thalamo-cortical systems terminating in motor and supple-mentary motor areas, respectively. The possibility is strongly suggested that the supplementary motor area receives cerebellar input via VLc (nucleus ventralis lateralis, pars caudalis) and/or area X, in addition to the pallidal input. There is also possibility of the pallidal projection to motor area via VLo, in addition to the cerebello-thalamo-cortical projection via VPLo (nucleus ventralis posterolateralis, pars oralis).
