　1964年，京都で開催された国際天然物化学会議において，津田博士らによってテトロドトキシン（TTX）の化学構造が発表され，承認された。これは歴史的なことであった。

　それから間もなく，神経，筋肉などの興奮性細胞において，興奮時に生じるNaイオン透過性の増大をTTXが選択的に抑制するという興味ある事実が見出された。このことがあってから，Naイオンレセプターや興奮機構の解明に重要な手掛りを与えるものとして，TTXは生理学，薬理学の研究領域において，多方面にわたって広く応用されるに至っている。

Abstract

It is very well known that tetrodotoxin (TTX) produces inhibition of a sodium carring system in the excitable membranes. In this paper, TTX actions are described in view-point of toxicology. TTX-induced toxic signs can be classified into four grades with the progress of an illness. The classification is convenient to consider the treat-ment of a TTX-induced intoxication.

We extracted interestedly several signs in four grades. The analysis of these signs were carried out on the basis of pharmacological and toxico-logical researches.
