躁うつ病と伝達物質

Manic-depressive illness and neurotransmitters

I．はじめに

　躁うつ病の生化学的研究に関しては，monoamine（MA）仮説がもっともよく研究され，かつ期待がもたれている。しかしcatecholamine（CA）仮説やserotonin（5HT）仮説が提唱され始めた初期の段階にくらべると，研究の進展とともに決して単純なものではなく，いろいろの矛盾点も指摘されてきており，他の伝達物質と考えられるものの関与や，CAと5HTとの相互作用などを含めて，今後の新しい研究の発展が望まれるようになってきている。このような現状ではあるが，CAと5HTの果たしている役割が大きいことは事実であろう。

　ここでは，主としてCA仮説と5HT仮説の歴史と現状について触れ，現在の問題点を筆者らの研究も含めながら述べることにする。

Many reports have been published dealing with aspects of biogenic amine metabolism in patients with manic-depressive illness. Especially the cate-cholamine hypothesis and the serotonin hypothesis of affective disorders are important. There are several evidences supporting the hypothesis that catecholamine or serotonin metabolism is disturbed in the brain of patients suffering from manic-depressive illness.
