  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Huntington's chorea has long been known as a degenerative disease of basal ganglia, especially of small neurones in the striatum. Until recently, there was quite a little information on the biochemical change in the brain of this disease directly related to the specific pathological change in the striatum. GABA, potent inhibitory neurotransmitter, was the first to be nominated as a specifically decreased substance in the substantia nigra of this disease, which receives strong afferent fibres from the striatum.
