  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Cerebral aneurysms, cerebral arteriovenous malf ormations and Sturge-Weber-Dimitri disease etc. have generally been considered to be of congenital origin. Among these diseases, however, some doubt exists as to the truly congenital nature of some cerbral aneurysms, for they do not often become symptomatic until at least the latter part of the second decade.

Thus, these controversial opinions as to the nature of cerebral aneurysms as well as the characteristics of these diseases have been reviewed clinico-pathologically, especially from the embryologic development of the cerebral vessels, aberrant persistent cerebral arteries, abnormalities of the circle of Willis, several thories as to the pathogenesis of cerebral aneurysms, the associated congenital abnormalities, the pathological changes produced by aneurysmal rupture, the pathophysiology of cerebral arteriovenous malformations and Sturge-Weber-Dimitri disease, etc.
