 The first two cases of Japanese patient with central core disease in different families were reported.

 A 14-year-old school-girl (case 1, 1974) and a 28-year-old single woman (case 2, 1975) admitted in scoliosis and non-progressive proximal muscle weakness, and muscle biopsy revealed a central core disease in each case.

Case 1 showed small stature with mild scoliosis (144 cm in height, 30 kg in weight), moderate proximal muscle weakness and atrophy predominant in the lower extremities, difficulty in standing-up and running, and normal intelligence.
