Localized inner ear lesions: Surgical extirpation and the vestibulo-ocular reflex

I．はじめに

　内耳は，左右に一つずつ，それぞれ6個の感覚装置があって回転加速度，直線加速度，音響を感受している。内耳は，骨迷路の中に狭苦しく閉じこめられた小さな器官であるが，6個の感覚装置のすべてが一様に障害されるのではなく，部分的に障害と健常，また廃絶が混在している場合も少なくない。

　部分的に廃絶があれば，そこからの内耳信号は存在しないし，障害があれば，そこからの信号は減少していたり，亢進していたり異常に変動したりする。健常な部分からは正常な反応が期待できる。

The inner ear endorgans, six on each side, send their own specific impulses independently of each other, into the brain stem. Intralabyrinthine lesions frequently appear to be localized within a particular endorgan. The resultant changes in the endorgan output signals are in either or both the resting and the responding discharges. Detailed analysis of the vestibulo-ocular reflex may be useful in localizing and classifying the nature of these lesions.
