  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

It has been pointed out, and recently confirmed, that the prevalence rate of multiple sclerosis (MS) in Japan is exceedingly lower than that in European and American countries. Likewise, it has long been an object of discussion in Japan up to the present whether the distribution and histologic appearance of lesions of MS cases in Japan are different from those in European and American countries: for example, the lesions of MS in Japan frequently occur mainly in the optic nerves and spinal cord, and they are, in many cases, necrotic and destructive.
