Some Observations on the Neuromuscular Transmission

I．はじめに

　シナプスはその伝達の機序によつて，電気的シナプスと化学的シナプスとに大別される。このうち電気的シナプスは最近の測定技術の進歩により見出されたものである。このシナプスは最初ザリガニの神経でFurshpan ＆ Potter（1958）により発見されたが，その後魚類の中枢神経系などで数多く見出され，かなり重要な働きをしているものと考えられる。一方化学的シナプスの研究の歴史は非常に古く化学的伝達がLoewによつて提唱されてからすでに50年，またDaleによりアセチルコリン（Ach）が伝達物質として同定されてから30年あまりの歳月がたつている。この間，伝達の機序の解明に多くの努力が払われてきたが，このような研究が一体どのような意義があるのか，また神経筋伝達，もしくはシナプス伝達について現在われわれはどの程度のことを知り，また未解決の問題がどの程度あるのか，ということを考えてみるのも意義があるのではなかろうか。

Basic mechanisms in the neuromuscular transmission are. discussed from the standpoint of the electrophysiological investigation. Questions concerning the neuromuscular transmission could be: 1) the nature of the transmitter, 2) the release of the transmitter from the nerve terminal and 3) the mode of action of the transmitter on the postsynaptic membrane. Although the transmitter has been identified in the vertebrate neuromuscular junction. it is, now, hotly debated in the field of the centralnervous system. The quantal release of the transmitter from the nerve terminal has been established.
