Neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) are functionally interdependent, and this interdependency is correlated with precise and coherent morphological interrelations. Neuroscientists have tried to unravel these interrelations in relation to various brain functions for this century. Neuroanatomists have provided details of the somatodendritic characteristics of neurons in various parts of the CNS using the Golgi technique, but could not unravel their axonal morphology.
