  • Look Inside

In recent years, there has been rapid progress in the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic method and therapeutics of sleep apnea syndrome (SAS). In this article, we present our findings in these fields for the past several years. The prevalence of snoring and SAS in the Japanese population was first investigated and the survey method is described in this report. The prevalence of habitual snoring is estimated to be 13.3%, and the prevalence of SAS to be 1.69% (3.3% male, 0.5% female), which are not low compared to other countries.
