  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Prestriate visual areas in monkeys and cats are composed of more than ten visual cortical areas each of which contains cells with selectivities for certain aspects of visual stimuli. One of the best studied cortical areas is V4 containing a number of cells which exhibit the response selectivity with color constancy. Another area is monkey MT and MST, and cat Clare-Bishop cortex containing cells with very special selectivity for various aspect of motion sense. The response selectivities of these prestriate neurons bear very close parallelism with the processes of visual perception revealed by vision psycho-physics.
