日本人の前立腺癌

緒言

　悪性腫瘍のうちでも前立腺癌はホルモン療法によく反応するという点で特異な存在の癌である。それ故泌尿器科のみならず病理学的にも興味のあるもので癌の発生病理を究明する上に手がかりとなるものと考えられている。わが国においては諸外国と比較して前立腺癌が明らかに少なく，疫学的にも興味ある問題を含んでいる。今回前立腺癌を日本と外国と比較して，何故に少ないのか，また日本でも増加するであろうか，ということについて論及してみたい。癌の頻度に関しては死亡数（または死亡率）によつた。死亡数を根拠にとることは実際には癌の発生率とは異なると考えられるが，発生頻度を調べることは事実上不可能に近く，それ故一般には発生頻度と死亡率とを同義語のように使うことがある。つぎに前立腺悪性腫瘍には癌腫と肉腫があり区別すべきものであるが，この両者を分けた統計がないため悪性腫瘍すなわち癌として扱かつた。

Cancer of the prostate is the second leading cause of death due to male cancer in the United States. The low incidence and death rate is not only among the Japanese, but moreover the incidence and death rate of the prostatic malignancy are very low among Asian people. Mortality of prostatic cancer among Japanese has increased rapidly from 1950 to 1965, while slowly from 1965 to 1971. The incidence rate of latent cancer does not differ significantly between western countries and Japan.
