We investigated the local effects of radiation therapy in patients with a metastatic lesion(s)of renal cell carcinoma. Sixteen patients(19 lesions)with metastasis of renal cell carcinoma were treated with radiation therapy. These patients were classified into 2 groups, one with bone, metastasis and the other with soft tissue metastasis. The therapeutic dose to bone metastasis ranged from 30 to 58 Gy,with the average of 47.9 Gy. Complaints caused by bone lesions were relieved in 50% of lesions. The therapeutic dose to soft tissue metastasis ranged 45 to 60 Gy,with the average of 54.2 Gy. The size reduction was observed in 63.6% of lesions. Radiation therapy could be one of multidisciplinary treatments in patients with metastasis of renal cell carcinoma.
