We conducted a survey on the subject of informing the diagnosis and prognosis to cancer patients. The survey using a questionnaire sheet that we designed was conducted for a group of 364 newly diagnosed cancer patients(318men,46 women, the average age was 66 years old)at our urology department in Kanagawa Cancer Center from April 1996 to December 2002. We divided the group into three age groups:middle age(under 64 years old),early senior(65 to 74 years old)and late senior(over 75 years old). The results of the survey showed that 86.6%and 78%of all patients wanted to be informed of the diagnosis and the prognosis respectively. The patients willing to know the prognosis were smaller in number significantly in the late senior group.
