  • Look Inside

This disease and necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum should belong to the same entity, though histologic differentiation between them are possible.

A 44-year-old housewife have had discoid, atrophic, yellow-reddish plaques on the scalp and thigh.

Histologic specimen showed non-specific chronic granuloma accompanied by infiltration of lymphocytes, epitheloid cells and giant cells throughout the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. There were swelling, necrosis and fragmentation of collagen around the infiltration, but no lipid deposition was found between the fibers. There were thickning of wall or obliteration of the small vessels in some parts.

There was no abnormality in glucose level of urine and blood. The results of laboratory tests were within normal limits except increased level of IgA, IgG and 2-Macroglobulin of serum.
