  • Look Inside

Contact dermatitis does not occur by external applications of 0.1% thimerosal ointment for 30 days in ginea pigs, however it occurs by using of thimerosal ointment added protease (pronase-p) for 2-3 weeks. Using 0.1% thimerosal ointment in the opposite side of such guinea pigs, in which contact dermatitis by thimerosal-pronase-p-ointment developed, contact dermatitis develops within the 4th. day after application. Histopathologically distinct acanthosis, spongiosis and vesicles-formafion was observed and, histochemically hydrargyrum was observed in horney layer, prickle cells neighbouring folliculi and in folliculi.

Pretreatment of cylophosphamide makes development of above mentioned contact dermatitis difficult.

It may be concluded that protease plays one of the important roles in development of contact allergy in guinea pigs.
