  • Look Inside

Studies on the geographic distribution of various kinds of dermatoses in the southern part of Japan for one year (1965-1966) were performed. The results were as follows :

1. Herpes zoster, tineaversicolor, alopecia areata, vitiligo vulgaris and filariasis : The incidence was very significantly different from place to place. They seem to ran paralled to both the length of daytime and higher temperature in summer.

2. Skin cancer, psoriasis vulgaris and tuberculosis of the skin : Their frequency of ocu-rrence was significantly different from place to place. They have some correlation with che-mical nature of soil. The incidence of skin cancer was higher in the area of slightly acidic soil, and that of cutaneous tuberculosis was higher in the area of old and slightly acidic soil, while that of psoriasis was higher in the area of strong acidic soil.

Their frequency was lower in the area of neutral and alkaline soil.
