  • Look Inside

This study was performed in 15 healthy adults, aged 18 to 22 years. The taste response was evaluated for 4 tastes; sweet (sucrose), salty (sodium chloride), sour (tartaric acid) and bitter (quinine hydrochloride) in 5 different concentrations for each reagent respectively.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) was performed at Yifeng-acupoints (TH-17) of both sides with rubber electrode. Square pulse (0.25msec duration) was used to stimulate at a frequency of 2Hz for 30 minutes.

Sweet, salty and bitter taste response obtained in the chorda tympani nerve area were more sensitive than those in the other areas after TENS.
