Abstract

1) The cortical taste area has been delineated in different animals by means of evoked potential method and/or behavioral method. In squirrel monkey and cat, evoked potentials are generally recorded from two spatially different areas in the brain cortex by electrical stimulation of the taste nerve; one is within or near the somatic sensory area I and the other is ventro-caudal to the area I. The latter has been supposed to be a pure cortical taste receptive area.
