Sixteen normal men and forty-six decorti-cated cats used in these experiments. Mono-polar cathodal shocks of 1 msec., duration were applied though the intact skin to the posterior tibial nerve behind the knee, depen-dent on the nature of the experiment.

Muscle action potentials were led to ampli-fiers and two beams cathod ray osciloscope through paired surface electrodes fixed to the skin overlying the gastrocnemius muscle.

The effect of current applied on the spinal cord was changed by various strengths cur-rent, using the H and M waves.

1. The occurrance of H wave was depend-ent upon four kinds of musoles. In all cases Of gastrocnemious muscle stimulated by tibial nerve and rectus femoral muscle sti-mulated by femoral nerve, H wave was reco-rded, but in the other cases H wave was not alway recorded individually.

2. The H wave was recorded in all cases of gastracnemius muscles stimulated by tibial nerves in infants and children.

3. The current was applied to spinal cord with the following effects on the H wave.
