　はじめに

　急性喉頭蓋炎は，突然の気道閉塞により窒息死することのある重篤な疾患である。急性あるいは亜急性の気道閉塞疾患においてしばしば肺水腫を合併することが知られているが，急性喉頭蓋炎に肺水腫を合併したという報告は極めて少ない。今回われわれは肺水腫を合併した成人の急性喉頭蓋炎で，気管切開とPEEPを併用した呼吸管理を行い軽快した2症例を経験したので報告する。

Acute epiglottitis in an adult is a serious disease because of its potentiality for sudden fatal airway obstruction.

Two adult cases of acute epiglottitis complicated with pulmonary edema were successfully treated with emergency tracheotomy and mechanical venti-lation with PEEP.
