  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Sjögren's syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disorder mainly affecting the secretory organs and frequently associating with other autoimmune dis-orders such as rheumatoid arthritis, primary biliarycirrhosis. Two cases with Sjögren's syndrome presented with primary biliary cirrhosis.

In both patients, Sjögren's syndrome was con-firmed by lip biopsy, but there were no clinical symptoms such as pruritus and/or jaundice, abnor-mal blood examinations including liver function tests indicative of liver disorder. However, the patient was finally diagnosed as having primary biliary cirrhosis by positive antimitochondrial anti-body and liver biopsy. In Sjögren's syndrome, blood examinations including liver function test should be serially checked for asymptomatic primary biliary cirrhosis.
