  • Look Inside

Angioleiomyoma of the auricle is a rare disor-der. A patient was initially suspected of having a epidermoid cyst of the auricle and later diagnosed as having angioleiomyoma by postoperative histopathological examination.

Occurrence of angioleiomyoma of the auricle differs from those the extremities and the trunk in frequency, average age, sex ratio, clinical feature and histopathological examination.

It has been reported that only 1.4 to 2.8% of all angioleiomyoma were found in the auricle, and the average age of the patients of the auriclar region is younger than those of the extremities and trunk. Females were more affected than males in all angioleiomyoma. The clinical features of the tumor in the auriclar region differ from those in the extremities and the trunk, especially in regard to spontaneous pain and tenderness.

According to Morimoto's histological classifica-tion, angioleiomyoma of the auriclar region is of capillary or solid type.
