A 47-year-old man presented with high level of serum calcium and a cervical mass.

He was diagnosed as primary hyperparathyroidism, and high level of serum calcium was treated with a large amount of transfusion, and left parathyroidectomy was undergone.

Surgical excision of the tumor resulted in Hungry bone syndrome, a severely low level of serum calcium which required administration of a large amount of calcium and vitamin D for a prolonged period.

Hungry bone syndrome is predictable based on blood test and ultrasound imaging.
