We measured the intraocular pressure (IOL) in 12 children who underwent surgery for strabismus. All the cases received 0.1% dexamethasone 3 timesstarting on the day after surgery. All were under 10 years of age. Among 19 eyes receiving topical dexamethasone, the IOP was greater than 27mmHg in 13 eyes, between 21 and 27mmHg in 4 and less than 21mmHg in 2 within 5 weeks after surgery. The elevated IOP decreased to 21mmHg or less after discontinuation of dexamethasone. The pre-sent findings suggest a higher incidence of cortico-steroid responder in children under 10 years of age.
