  • Look Inside

We evaluated the clinical course of 10 cases of Mooren's ulcer treated by keratoepithelioplasty. Additional lamellar keratoplasty was performed in 4 eyes in the series. The postoperative follow up ranged from 1.0 to 4.7 years, average 3.0 years.

The corneal lesion was successfully healed in all the 10 eyes without additional major surgery. Minor epithelial defects or infiltrations developed within 6 months in 4 eyes. Subconjunctival steroidinjection was effective in 2. The other 2 eyes had to be treated by conjunctival incision to attain hea-ling. Another 2 eyes developed minor epithelial lesions during 7 to 12 months postoperatively. These 2 eyes responded well to subconjunctival steroid. Epithelial troubles have been consistently absent thereafter. The visual acuity stayed con-stant throughout the observation period. The find-ings indicate the usefulness of keratoepithelioplasty in the treatment of Mooren's ulcer.
