We evaluated the visual field in 104 eyes with glaucoma and in 35 eyes with ocular hypertension. We used the program central 30-2 of Humphrey Field Analyzer 630.

The global indices were consistent with the pro-gression of glaucomatous visual field defects. Reli-ability was compromised more in fixation loss and less in false positive response. Stage of field loss didnot affect the fixation losses or false positive rates. False negative response increased in frequency along with progression of glaucoma. Short-term fluctuations became larger in the presence of glaucomatous field defect. They were positively correlated with the pattern standard deviation.

False negative rates and short-term fluctuations are two major factors that affect the reliability of glaucomatous visual field defects as tested with the current automated perimeter.
