  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We quantitated the complement receptor CR 2 in lymphocytes in the circulating blood in 59 patients with ocular involvement of Behçet's disease and 20 age-matched healthy persons. We used monoclonal antibody method in quantitating the CR 2 level. We also evaluated the blood sedimentation rate, white blood cells, C3, C4 and CH50 levels.

The CR2 levels were significantly lower in the-patients than in the control group (p<0.005). The CR 2 levels in the patients were significantly lower during acute attacks than during the remissions (p<0.05). The CR2 levels during the remissions were lower than in the control group (p<0.025).

These findings seemed to imply that patients with ocular manifestations of Behçet's disease are affected by lower levels of CR 2 in circulating lymphocytes mediated by abnormalities in the B -cell system.
