We evaluated the peripheral T cell subsets in 75 patients with Behçet's disease using OKT series hybridoma monoclonal antibodies.
The percentages of OKT3+ and OKT4+ cells were significantly increased and OKTa1+significant-ly decreased in patients with Behçet's disease as compared with healthy controls.
OKT3+ cells increased significantly during the attacks. OKT8+ cells increased during ocular at-tacks and OKT4+ cells during extraocular attacks.
The ratio OKT4+/OKT8+ tended to increaseduring the period when the extraocular attacks occurred frequently. It tended to decrease during the period of ocular attacks.
OKT8+ cells increased towards the late stage of ocular attacks and after, as if they had contributed to the repair of the attacks. A decrease of OKT4+ cells seemed to play some role in the onset ofocular attacks.
