  • Look Inside

We evaluated 105 petients with Behçet's disease concerning the activated lymphocyte subpopula-tions and functional T lymphocyte assay in the peripheral blood. We used double color flow cytometry technique.

The patients showed significantly more active T and B (IL-2R*) cells than in volunteer controls. The increased T lymphocytes positively correlated with increased levels of activated Leu2a (cytotox-ic/suppressor T) lymphocytes. IL-2R+. Leu2a+ lymphocytes was significantly increased in patients than in controls (p<0.01).

The number of circulating suppressor T cells was elevated after onset of ocular attacks to remain at high levels throughout the period of attack when compared with the value just before the attacks (p< 0.025). The helper T cells showed temporary increase immediately before till immediately after onset of attacks.

Patients treated with systemic cyclosporin showed increased levels of suppressor T cells when compared with those without.
