We evaluated 55 eyes which received simultaneous pars plana vitrectomy, phacoemulsification-aspirationand intraocular lens implantation. Thirty-eight eyes received gas tamponade using SF6. We tried to identify factors thatinfluence postoperative changes in the corneal shape up to 24 weeks. The corneal astigmatism gradually regressed aftersurgery. Multiple regression analysis showed three factors that are significantly correlated with postoperative astigmatism: gas tamponade, fibrinous exudation in the aqueous, and posterior synechia. Eyes with gas tamponade had significantlylarger astigmatism at 2 weeks after surgery than those without (p=0.002). There was no difference between the twogroups after 12 weeks of surgery.
