  • Look Inside

We reviewed 297 patients who underwent bilateral cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOP) implantation and who had corrected visual acuity of 20/20. Patients were also asked to report about their near and far vision by question-naire . There were 199 patients who were emmetropic, or refractive error within ア 1.0 diopter (D) , 86 patients who had myopia greater than-1.0D, and 12 patients who had hyperopia greater than +1.0 D. Spectacles for near and distance were used by 71.7% and 24.9% of emmetropes respectively, and by 31.8% and 62.8% of myopes respectively. Subjectively, about 80% of emmetropes had no difficulty in near vision and, conversely, about 15% of myopes had difficulty. The findings show that IOP implantation can be designed to achieve postoperative emmetropia regarding the comfort of patients except in reading activities.
