Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of refractive surgery by implanting toric phakic intraocular lens for astigmatic high myopia. Cases and Method:This study was made on 7 eyes of 6 patients who received implantation of Canon-Staar Toric-ICLTM during a one-year period. Their age ranged from 30 to 37 years, average 37 years. The refraction averaged spherical equivalent of -10.05±2.34 diopters with astigmatism averaging -2.00±0.88 diopters. They were followed up for 3 to 16 months, average 6 months. Results:At 6 months after surgery, the visual acuity averaged 1.15 without and 1.70 with correction. The refraction averaged spherical equivalent of -0.05±0.56 diopters with astigmatism averaging -1.07±0.51 diopters. The astigmatism improved by 73% after subtraction of induced corneal astigmatism. There was no complication throughout. All the cases expressed satisfaction with the outcome. Conclusion:The present method was effective for correction of astigmatic high myopia in spite of tendency for undercorrection. There is need of a nomogram considering induced corneal astigmatism, selection of lens, and long-term observation.
