The visual outcome following intraocular lens implantation

（1）白内障嚢外摘出術後の視力は長期的安定性が良かったが，白内障嚢内摘出術後では，時間とともに視力低下の傾向が観察された。特に75歳以上の高齢者にこの傾向が見られた。以上は水晶体後嚢の防禦柵としての機能の一つの裏付けとも考えられる。

（2）視力0.5以下の場合，術前の合併症によると考えられる例が多く，現時点では，術前の合併症のない症例の選択に細心の注意を要する。

（3）矯正レンズに関しては，球面レンズ｜1.0｜D以内で矯正できた症例は視力が良かった。円柱レンズは，一定の傾向はなかった。

An evaluation was made on the fate of visual acuity following intraocular lens implantation in 80 eyes during the past 8-year period. Extracapsular cataract extraction was performed in 65 eyes and intracapsular one in 15. Iridocapsular or iris clip lens was mainly used in the present series.

The final visual acuity of 0.7 or more was attained in 55 eyes (69%). The visual acuity was 0.5 or less in 10 eyes, of which 5 eyes proved to have had some complications before surgery. The visual outcome after extracapsular lens extraction with intraocular lens was significantly better in aged subjects of over 75 years (p≦0.05).
