  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We evaluated 28 patients of psoriasis regarding the corneal endothelial cells and aqueous flare. Another series of 18 healthy persons served as control. The aqueous flare, measured by a laser flare cell meter, showed significantly higher values in the patients than in controls (p < 0.001) . When examined by a specular microscope, the patients' eyes showed significantly decreased cell density and increased averaged area of corneal endothelial cells. The aqueous flare value was positively correlated with the average cell area. No significant difference was present in hexagonality or coefficient of variation of endothelial cells between both groups. The findings show the presence of subclinical inflammation in the anterior ocular segment with damaged corneal endotheial cells in psoriasis patients.
