  • Look Inside

A 23-year-old male presented with a large choroidal hemangioma in his right eye associated with ipsilateral Sturge-Weber syndrome. The hemangioma was 7 disc diameters in size and was located temporal to the disc involving the macula. Bullous retinal detachment was present in the inferior fundus. The lesion persisted after laser photocoagulation, systemic interferon and surgical drainage of subretinal fluid. Remarkable improve-ment set in after low-dose external radiation totalling 22 Gy. The hemangioma became flat and the retina become reattached 5 months later. This case illustrates the effectiveness of low-dose radiation for recalcitrant choroidal hemangioma.
