  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Out of a consecutive series of 81 eyes which achieved initial success after vitreous surgery, late reopening of the hole occurred in 4 eyes (5%). All the four eyes resulted in closure of the hole after second vitreous surgery with membrane peeling and injection of C3F8 gas. New tangential traction by the reproliferated epiretinal membrane around the hole appeared to be a major factor in the late reopening. Cataract surgery of the post-vitrectomized eyes would have induced intraocular inflammation and growth of epiretinal membrane.
