We treated two eyes with diffuse macular edema with thick epimacular vitreous membrane secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion. During vitreous surgery, the vitreous membrane had to be separated from the macular surface. Macular edema and retinal hemorrhage decreased following surgery. Fluorescein angiography showed reduced dye leakage from the affected vessels. The visual acuity improved significantly. These cases illustrates the possibility that diffuse macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion can be successfully treated by surgical removal of the epimacular vitreous membrane.
