  • Look Inside

We reviewed 21 eyes of 20 patients under 40 years of age with central retinal vein occlusion,CRVO. They had been followed up for 6 months or longer. The series comprised 3 eyes with ischemic and 18 of nonischemic CRVO. The 3 eyes with ischemic CRVO received panretinal photocoagulation. The final visual acuity was 20/200 or less in the 3 eyes. Among the 18 eyes with nonischemic CRVO, 13 eyes, 72%,achieved final visual acuity of 20/25 or more. Out of 4 eyes with systemic complications and aged 30 years or over, only one eye achieved visual acuity of 20/25. Poor visual outcome was more common in ischemic CRVO and in persons with nonischemic CRVO when they were aged 30 years or over and had systemic complications.
