We developed a temporal modulation perimeter for fundus-controlled flicker perimetry. It measures the sinusoidal temporal modulation threshold at 9 points within 30 degrees of the central fundus. The target is 50 minutes in size and is presented at the frequency of 20 Hz. The illuminance of both background and target is set at 200 td. We applied this method to eyes of papilledema, incipient macular hole, Harada disease and central serous chorioretinopathy. We observed rises in temporal modulation threshold before abnormalities were detected by conventional ophthalmological examinations and after apparent improvements. These findings show the clinical usefulness of the present method which is more sensitive and accurate than hitherto available modalities.
