We evaluated 849 patients with eye injuries hospitalized in Department of Ophthalmology, Dokkyo University during 20 years through 1993. The series comprised 680 males and 169 females. Both eyes were involved in 60. Blindness, defined asvisual acuity less than 0.02, resulted in 226 eyes, due to motor vehicle accidents 46 eyes, motorized weeder 14, fall 14 and others. The incidence of blindness consequent to eye injury sharply de-creased since 1980. Improved therapy, including surgical tools and vitreoretinal surgery, seemed to be a major contributing factor.
