We reviewed the postsurgical results in 10 eyes with pseudophakia and diabetic retinopathy treat-ed by vitrectomy. The state of retinopathy was proliferative in 7 eyes before cataract surgery and could not be duely treated by photocoagulationprior to vitrectomy. In eyes with capsular opacity or synechia, we performed posterior capsulotomy and pupillary stretching to facilitate manipulations during vitrectomy. Visual acuity improved in 7 of the 10 eyes in the series. We had to remove the intraocular lens in the other 3 eyes because of anterior hyaloidal fibrovascular proliferation. The peripheral proliferative tissue thus may have to be removed during revitrectomy for pseudophakic diabetic retinopathy.
