A 41-year-old female was treated with high-dose cytarabine (Ara-C) for acute myeloblastic leuke-mia. She developed bilateral acute visual distur-bance 3 weeks after initiation of therapy. She showed typical leukemic retinopathy in both eyes.Corrected visual acuity was 3/100 and 10/100 each. HLA-matched platelet transfusion led to gradual and steady recovery of retinopathy. The corrected visual acuity improved to 6/20 and 20/20 4 months after platelet transfusion. She was in a state of complete remission one year later. The presence of severe retinopathy has been regarded as a poor prognostic sign. The present case is an unusual instance of long-term survival after pronounced leukemic retinopathy.
