  • Look Inside

We evaluated the peripapillary halo in 100 glaucomatous eyes and control eyes as seen in the late venous phase of fluorescein angiograms. The series comprised 20 eyes of 20 cases each with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), late-onset develop-mental glaucoma (DG), low tension glaucoma (LTG), and normal control. Open angle glaucomas, including POAG, DG and LTG, manifested segmen-tal or total defects of peripapillary halo (p<0.01). Eyes with PACG showed no definite pattern. Defects of peripapillary halo were mostly ac-companied by a decrease in radial epipapillary capillaries and defective structure in the disc capil-laries. The findings suggest that the peripapillary halo serves as a parameter of the susceptibility of the optic disc to elevated intraocular pressure.
