  • Look Inside

We evaluated the inhibitory effect of three antial-lergic eyedrops preparations on ocular provocation in 27 patients with perennial allergic conjunctivitis. Ocular provocation was induced by instillation of mite antigen (Dermatophagoides farinae) diluted 400 fold. As antiallergic eyedrops, we used 2 % disodium cromoglycate (DSCG), 0.25 % amlexanoxand 0.05 % ketotifen.

Each test subject received one of the antiallergic eyedrops in the right eye and placebo eyedrops in the left. Ten minutes later, mite antigen was in-stilled in both eyes. Histamine levels in the lacrimal fluid 5 and 10 minutes after provocation were sig. nificantly less in the right eye than in the control left eye. Topical DSCG, amlexanox and ketotifen were thus considered to be effective for perennial allergic conjunctivitis.
