We evaluated the effect of 0.25% and 0.1% ophth-almic solutions of pemirolast (TBX) on suppress-ing ocular provocation in 22 patients with Japanese cedar pollinosis in the asymptomatic stage. Ten minutes after instillation of TBX eyedrops in one eye and of placebo in the other, a cedar pllen antigen solution at 1: 20W/V was instilled to induce all ergic reaction in the form of release of histamine in the tear fluid. The TBX solution in both concentrations showed significant inhibitory effect on release of histamine 5 minutes (p<0.001) and 10 minutes (p<0.05) after provocation. The rates of inhibition after 5 and 10 minutes were 72% and 61% for 0.25% TBX and 70% and 69% for 0.1% TBX. TBX ophthalmic solution appeared to be effective for Japanese cedar pollinosis.
