Abstract. A total of 145 patients of open angle glaucoma were interviewed regarding the actual use of eyedrops. They had been using eyedrops for 3 months or longer. They had received due instructions regarding the name of eyedrops, time and frequency of instillation before start of treatment. The ages of patients ranged from 29 to 82 years, average 59.9±12.9 years. The name of eyedrops was correctly remembered by 62 patients(42.8%). The frequency of instillation was in accordance to the instructions by 135 patients(93.1%). Instillation of eyedrops was performed at the designated time of the day by 114 patients(78.7%). The name of eyedrops was better remembered by males than females(p<0.01),by younger than aged patients(p<0.001),and by those under longer period of medication(p<0.01). Instruction as to frequency and timing were better adhered to when the patients visited the clinic more frequently(p<0.05),when they received plural medications(p<0.05),and when they were using eyedrops for shorter periods(p<0.001).
